UK waste incineration
There have been protests against burning in suburban London, in communities such as Maury Valley, and in The Lake District of Ontario.
Technology in waste management in The UK lags far behind the rest of Europe because of its large number of landfills at its disposal. By the European Union to enter into a garbage fill (TheLandfillDirective) to the British government to administer the legislation on waste management, including landfill tax and landfill allowance trading scheme (LandfillAllowanceTradingScheme). The legislation aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from landfill by using alternative waste disposal methods. The UK government's position is that incineration will gradually play a bigger role in dealing with municipal waste and energy supplies. In 2008, nearly 100 sites in the UK were identified as potential sites for future waste incinerators. These sites have also been mapped by British ngos.
The history of municipal solid waste (MSW) incineration (incineration) is closely tied to the history of landfills and other forms of waste disposal. When judging the benefits of waste incineration, it is inevitable to compare it with other waste disposal methods. Since the 1970s, changes in recycling and other means of disposing of waste have changed perceptions of the advantages and disadvantages of incineration. Since the 1990s, other waste treatment technologies have also matured and become practical.
